Legacy Church here in Albuquerque has called for their members to "fast and pray" in order to stop the Domestic Partner Bill from passing the NM state legislature. Legacy Church is a right wing wacko mega-church, that believes the Bible is literally true, and that some are going to be "saved" (them of course) and some will be damned for all time (us, the homosexuals and transgender sinners). The pastor of the church, Steve Smothermon, told the congregation that the sin of homosexuality would hurt New Mexicans and even the entire country. Yeah RIGHT.

I guess they thought it was much more important to fast and pray against homosexuality, than to pray for the nation's economic recovery, or an end to the Palestinian-Jewish conflict, or global warming, or to feed hungry children in the world. I guess to give same-sex couples the right to visit their partner in the hospital, or to give them the right of medical decision for their partner, or the right of inheritance, means the end of the world as we know it. Honestly, this is an example of people with personality disorders, uniting with the fairy tales from a false religion, to demonize a group of persons they do not even know.

So tomorrow, they will be at the state capital in Santa Fe, to stand up to fight against a bill that will protect unmarried couples. They will think they are doing the Will of the God they serve. Actually, they are perpetuating hate...and seeking to continue the discrimination of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, the discrimination that so far, is sanctioned by the US Government.

Right Wing pray for an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict? Are you joking Virginia? Heck, that's their bread and butter. Without all the killing and genocide the RW would be at a loss for words.

Equal rights will prevail outside the RW churches. But they are free to control their own congregations in that body of Christianity.

Of course they are perpetuating hate and where they have no right to do so. People should begin to tell the RW to control their own body of people, control all their women who are aborting their babies, who are committing adultery, getting divorces, abusing their children, committing untold crimes. They need to be told just how disgusting they are and to clean up their membership. Once they do that, take care of their own sinners, they won't have time for protesting how other people conduct their lives in the world.

Maybe if people began watching the members of Legacy Church and taking their names when they sin, then send this information to the pastor of the church plus a few more noted community leaders, it would get the point across? I'm sure the members commit lots of sins on a daily basis that could be exposed to the world of Albuquerque. I could even imagine it as a public service announcement. Once a week or monthly or whatever.

Thanks for this update, Virginia. What are the chances that the Domestic Partner Bill will pass in spite of the right-wing opposition?

Good to see you!

Virginia - the RW-ers are fighting hard for that here in North Carolina as well. James Dobson's anti-homosexual hate group Love Won Out recently held a conference in Charlotte - the RW lug nuts abounded. Very sad, especially when seeing or hearing about footage of mothers taking their teens, sometimes as young as 12, to get "fixed" by these nutballs.

Ros - remember the song "Harper Valley PTA"? Maybe it IS time for people to start doing that - finding out the memberships of some of the more vocal megachurches in their areas and publishing the sins of their congregants.

Tom T Hall, Harper Valley P.T.A. Lyrics

Send “Harper Valley P.T.A.” Ringtone to Cell Phone

I want to tell you all a story 'bout a Harper Valley widowed wife
Who had a teenage daughter who attended Harper Valley Junior High
Well her daughter came home one afternoon and didn't even stop to play
She said, "Mom, I got a note here from the Harper Valley P.T.A."

The note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearing your dresses way too high
It's reported you've been drinking and a-runnin' 'round with men and going wild
And we don't believe you ought to be bringing up your little girl this way"
It was signed by the secretary, Harper Valley P.T.A.

Well, it happened that the P.T.A. was gonna meet that very afternoon
They were sure surprised when Mrs. Johnson wore her mini-skirt into the room
And as she walked up to the blackboard, I still recall the words she had to say
She said, "I'd like to address this meeting of the Harper Valley P.T.A."

Well, there's Bobby Taylor sittin' there and seven times he's asked me for a date
Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lot of ice whenever he's away
And Mr. Baker, can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town?
And shouldn't widow Jones be told to keep her window shades all pulled completely down?

Well, Mr. Harper couldn't be here 'cause he stayed too long at Kelly's Bar again
And if you smell Shirley Thompson's breath, you'll find she's had a little nip of gin
Then you have the nerve to tell me you think that as a mother I'm not fit
Well, this is just a little Peyton Place and you're all Harper Valley hypocrites

No I wouldn't put you on because it really did, it happened just this way
The day my Mama socked it to the Harper Valley P.T.A.
The day my Mama socked it to the Harper Valley P.T.A.

Here's a thought. Police records are public information aren't they? Newspapers report criminal activity. The majority of these criminals are Christians who go to church somewhere. Why should these Christians be allowed to go unnoticed by their church leaders? Why not show them their sins? ("Be sure your sins will find you out") And why not ask them to do something about the rise in criminal activity by these Christians? Surely the church leaders would not deny these people are Christians, would they?

Look at all the drug traffiic and Christian youth who are guilty of buying and selling. One of these Christians could cause the death of another person. Why are their Christian parents setting in pews every Sunday playing and singing "holy holy holy" - isn't it time they were exposed for what they are - irresponsible Christian parents who are enabling their youngsters to engage in criminal activity.? . ?

Before today I had not realized the seriousness of this problem within the "Christian" community. While I have set idly by and listened to all the accusations about atheists and other non-Christians, I've failed to recognize who it is that makes up the majority of thugs, theives, murderer's, shoplifters, larcenists, slanderer's, liars, drug dealers, batterer's, child molesters, child killers, and more. They have been shamelessly covered by their churches of Christianity!

Why in the hell isn't the Right Wing doing something about their Christians behavior? Well, it seems to me that no one is making the RW aware of their own problem within their own "family values". Don't you think it's time they were made aware, through exposing them for who they are?

Mickey- The Bill is being voted on in the State Senate today. The vote will be close. Even though there is a 27-15 democratic majority in the Senate, some dems have been pressured by Catholic Bishops to vote against it. I'm headed to the Capital now so we will know later. If it passes the Senate, it is no problem in the House and the Gov. will sign it.

Thanks for all these great posts, everyone.
