on the flip side, there are movies i wanted to see, glad i saw...but can only watch once...for various reasons.

for me, a couple of films for this category come to mind:

titanic (not sure what the hoopla was all about)
saving private ryan (very disturbing to the psyche)
the godfather movies
2001 a space odyssey

what films go on this list for you?

While I could watch Saving Private Ryan over and over again, (what with being a veteran who can empathize with those who have experienced the horrors of war while still being able to be moved by that movie), it seems that after a one time viewing of Mel Gibson's Passion I have had no real desire to see it again eventhough I bought the DVD. So it just sits on the shelf collecting dust.

Then there are the movies where knowing the ending actually spoils the desire to see it again, in that the 'fresh and unknowing' perspective is never the same again. (The Sixth Sense comes to mind here.)

I have well over 400 movies in my collection, and although there are quite a few of them I haven't watched in some time because I don't have a current desire to see them again, I imagine there will come a time when they may prove to be entertaining or somehow 'valuable' to me (or someone else) once again.

doc ;)

I just donated two dozen dvds to the local library because I knew I wouldn't want to see them again. I can't hardly remember the names of most of them - Sideways was particularly awful as was Spanglish and Tiptoes - but someone will want to see them at least once.

Before libraries were forced to share their DVDs about a year ago, I used to buy a lot of second-hand movies in the city as this was cheaper than renting for me (with an extra trip to town the next day to return.)

Now, I order in a lot by inter-library and only buy "keepers". The good thing with library loans is the loan period on DVDs is one or two weeks. And you can get documentaries which I like to watch. The last documentary I got was "God grew tired of us".

Sola, how could you dislike Sideways? I loved it to bits and have seen it probably four or five times now.

I just never got to the point where I could find the drunken thief precious. You have to care what happens to a character and I didn't.

Did you see the other list about movies you love?

My All-Time hated movie is "Million-Dollar Baby."

Lots of movies that I won't watch again......but that one I hate.

Cheap emotional trickery and all based on an accident that could never happen in real life.

Cheap, cheap, cheap and stupid trickery.

:x

I wish you had mentioned this about MDB before I watched it. I cryed so much that I woke up with swollen eyes the next day.

Another of my favourite movies is Nobody's Fool. One of my all time favourite movie scenes is the jelly donut scene. (Newman has to go to jail so instructs his son to buy this simple man his daily jelly donut - that was true love to me.)

Sorry, Dot......wish I'd warned you.

I continue to watch "Dances With Wolves" even though so many bad things happen that I end up totally depressed......I guess it's the music and the photography that keep me coming back.

Sigh.

"Gone With The Wind". A classic tale of greed, lust and power.

"The Exorcist". Ruined Linda Blairs career imo. Her acting skills afterward never seemed to match that frightening bed scene where she turns her head backward.

"The Godfather". One, two, three, four, or however many more. Historical realism in an old Italy and NY setting. Wicked wicked characters. And I keep getting the characters of Dinero and Pestachio mixed up. And the self important overpaid butthead who played the Godfather character, I never liked at all. The only other thing I can think of that he was gawd-awful in was some biker movie from the '50's.

"Forest Gump". Funny, endearing, entertaining.

"Switchblade". The best of Billy Bob Thornton.

"Santa" The next best of Billy Bob Thornton. Really funny stuff.

"The Farmer". Billy Bob and his vision of retired astronauts I suppose.

"It Came From Outer Space". I watched this one for the first time a few days ago. The desert still looks the same. The automobiles have changed somewhat. Was that a '55 Ford? The aliens have definetly evolved.

"The Rainman". Excellent movie with relevant theme. Based on true life experience.

This is classic Roselyn.

The ability to turn your head backwards is a level of acting skill that few can ever hope to achieve.

I think she meant "Slingblade."

I think she meant "Bad Santa."

I think she meant "The Astronaut Farmer."

And what an interesting comment on Marlon Brando, who won an Oscar for his work in "The Godfather," and split the craft of acting into two time periods--Before Brando and After Brando.

And although the autistic character in "Rain Man" was inspired by an autistic man, that's as far as it went.....the story was fiction.

Roselyn, you are a classic. You have taken the art of information destruction to new heights.

Brando stinks. No talent. Overpaid and over rated. Is he dead or alive?

ps.. thanks for the corrections. :) Early Alshammers I suppose.
