Logos, your comment above about what laws do and are made for, made me think about this quote from Thomas Paine's "Common Sense." I tend to agree with Tom.

Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.

Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil in its worst state an intolerable one...

Tell me that when a cop saves your sorry ass from a mugger.

Of course, the cop may not be there to help you.......because you and your right-wing buddies have managed to gut government services by creating a funding crisis.

Too bad for you.

There is a growing movement in Christian circles to hold church itself in the homes of its members. I used to go to such a church... I think that this thing in California is unconstitutional. I have a fundegelical pastor living next door to me and they hold weekly bible study. It doesn't bother me in the least. The man is a good man too. He shoveled my driveway last winter several times just for the heck of it.

Logos, you need to settle down and go for a walk, man. My post was not intended to say you were wrong about what you posted. I merely stated that your post reminded me of a quote from Common Sense. I do believe laws have the consequence of protecting people like yourself from things that may (or are perceived to) harm you.

Why are you so defensive, I wonder?

BTW, no matter how many times you or Ros say it, I'm not a right winger.

That's a laugh.

If they just "hold church," that's one thing.

If somebody is making a profit or a living off others......that's another thing.

If they make a lot of noise, that's another thing.

If they play with rattlesnakes......

Etc.

Pax!

I remember a few prayer meetings when I was around five or six. That's when prayer would shake the rafters, so to speak. Someone would feel the spirit coming upon them and schedule a meeting that very week. It was loud with five or six men praying at once.. And the prayers lasted until the prayer got worn out. That was real prayer. Not this waving and weaving crap seen today on TV. This was on-the-knees stuff. Sweat and tears and pleadings to the Lord. Thanks giving, prayers for the sick, for guidance toward good. The people really wore themselves out praying.

Logos definetly wouldn't be able to handle it should such home bible study meet on his block.

I don't care what FundaGelicals do......as long as they don't do it in the street and scare the horses.
